There are many different ways to create images, but only a few good ways. One question you will need to decide is: Do you want to use browser-safe/web-safe colors or do you want more dithered images? What's the difference you might ask? Well, when creating images, it means all the difference in the universe.

"Phineas, show these folks what's behind door number 1."
The reader moves his mouse over door number one.
"Well, Phoebe, behind door number one is ...look! It's a Moo Cow."
"That's right, Phineas. And this Moo Cow is in web-safe-color mode. People will see the same colors, no matter how new or old their computer is, as long as their computer isn't a dinosaur."
"What if their computer is a dinosaur, Phoebe."
"Then chances are, Phineas, they aren't surfing the internet on it."

"Also, the image behind the door uses less colors and has a smaller file size than the images that will follow." (31 colors, 4.941K)

The reader takes his cue, moving his mouse to door number 2.
"Ok. So now we take that same image and add a shadow to the clouds. But what are those icky rings around them? Those dirty rings...you try scrubbing and soaking, but it doesn't do any good. The fact is if you want a beautiful glowing image or fuzzy shadowed image, web-safe colors are not an option." (32 colors, 8.413K)
